JIMMY'S HISTORY
Giacomo Lombardi set his foot on American sole as a 12 year
Italian immigrant in 1938. As most Italians did, he converted
his first name into an American version;
JIMMY.
Jimmy was a Neopolitan, originating from Naples in Italy, the
birth place of the pizza that we know today. His mother
was famous in town for her exquisite dishes, of all her repertoire
of pizzas, and settling in Little Italy New
York, she took up baking pizzas to make ends meet.
Young Jimmy was operating as a street vendor for his mother, and
soon a well known picture in Little Italy, walking
around with a small tin stove on his head, calling out to attract
customers.
The first steps of the paved way for the opening of his first
pizzeria.
In 1945 soldiers returning from WWII brought with them a taste
for certain foods, and pizza was at the top of their list.
Jimmy was one of the first Italians that understood that Americans
had a different taste for pizza, especially in respect of the
tomato sauce and the amount of cheese. He adjusted his mothers
recipes and opened his first
Jimmy's
Pizzeria in the hearth of Brooklyn in 1948.
It should soon be proven that Jimmy had found the quickest way
to the American hearth, and in his noble and humble way, he brick
by brick laid the foundation of what should be one of America
most rewarded pizza chains. At his death in 1998, the chain consisted
of 63 outlets.
Jimmy never forgot his origin as an immigrant and used considerable
parts of his business profit(s) to support culture and society.
In this way the name
JIMMY'S
became conceptual throughout America.
We are very proud of being granted the opportunity to us his name
in Spain today.
